Andrej Pejic - Mr Unisex

Transexuals, transvestites and models with no clear gender affiliation are all the rage in the fashion industry at the moment. Appearing on cover shoots, editorials and advertising campaigns all over the world. Andrej Pejic, coined Mr Unisex, is just one of the androgynous models in the industry but he has really caught the attention of the fashion world when he modelled Jean-Paul Gaultier's Paris show this year. He has since then appeared in French Vogue, Italian Vogue, Turkish Vogue and has been named the new face of Marc Jacobs' spring 2011 collection.

Andrej Pejic is simply beautiful. He has the face of a handsome boy and an elegant woman all rolled in to one. But most interesting of all is the fact I think he is at the fore front of a new high fashion in which male and female attitudes towards what men and women should and should not wear is changing. Androgynous fashion for women has been apparent for a while now but what about feminity for men? Turkish Vogue’s editor in chief, Seda Dominic, who chose him for his Vogue spread said 'The line between the sexes is becoming more and more blurred. Fashion is all about providing people with choices. It doesn’t matter if you’re a man or a woman.' So why not see men in leggings, tight fitted clothes and more colour? I think fashion designers would suddenly have a whole new genre of clothes to dream up! Lucky them.

I think Andrej Pejic is seriously capitalising on curiosity in the fashion and the consumer world and so he should. Last month 'The New York Times' said that 2010 will be the year of the transsexual and now it has well and truly flourished in to 2011. Here are a few of my favourite images I found of Mr Unisex...
